The contemporary world has become more interconnected, and this unification has led to the emerging concept of interdisciplinarity. Multidisciplinary refers to the disintegration of old disciplines to create room for emerging items that would otherwise not have room in the field of sciences (Okamura, 2019). The interconnectedness across various subjects has led to the loss of some old concepts and the development of new ones. While the changes are inevitable, Covey (2016) argued that they should facilitate interactive and personal effectiveness. Therefore, interdisciplinarity should not compromise the character ethics that define each specialty, as they offer the proven guidelines for human behaviors.
Understanding the concept of interdisciplinarity has changed my mindset in various ways. I now comprehend the likelihood of more interactions between my career and other professional fields. Therefore, I am more open to other worldviews that may help me achieve personal effectiveness. Understanding this concept has also heightened my awareness of the different principles that govern various specialties and how these ideologies may influence the administration of my occupation. Interdisciplinarity reaffirms my worldview of transcending the boundaries of my discipline and freely adopting other aspects that may not align with my beliefs to solve problems. Interdisciplinarity has been impactful in how I make decisions and relationships with the multidisciplinary team at work. I will use interdisciplinarity to tackle problems such as conflicts at work due to contrasting worldviews.
Covey (2016) offers insightful perspectives about human life through his teachings on organizing life and aligning it with the Christian worldview offering an ideal guideline for my interdisciplinary career. Covey (2016) outlines the significance of character ethics in guiding decision-making. While I have previously based most of my decisions on personal beliefs, my encounter with Coveys teachings enlightened me on the importance of developing a framework based on values like honesty and integrity, which promote cooperation and relational growth. Covey (2016) emphasizes the timeless principles of fairness, integrity, honesty, and human dignity.
I believe that these principles transcend all the contemporary trends that emerge based on the societal eras. These principles have had the single most helpful lesson that bears a personal impact on my worldview and discipline. For example, I learned that solving most problems requires adherence to the timeless principles that Covey (2016) outlines. The lessons acquired from Covey (2016) will be vital in reinforcing my worldview and professional standards. The lesson will help me to adopt more proactive measures against issues that I encounter within the workplace, which will consequently enhance my productivity.
