Introduction
I visited the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami 22nd of November 2022 at twelve-thirty in the afternoon. I was amazed by several artistic works displayed in the facility. Some artistic works date back many years, while others date as recently as 2020. Additionally, culinary and visual arts are the common types of art found in the facility. The artistic works that interested me the most were Dantor a Anais and Soup Joumou.
Dantor a Anais
The artistic work Dantor a Anais dates back to 2018 and was a collection of Doreen and Gilbert Bassin. The medium that was used in the mentioned artwork was acrylic paint. The qualities of acrylic paint include drying faster compared to oil mediums, emitting little or no odour, emitting no toxic fumes, and the medium can be air-dried through evaporation. The four formal elements applied in the artwork are texture, color, shape, and line. The shape of the art is irregular, also described as organic. The art is also made up of different colors, including blue, green, grey, and red. The artist has used the mark-making technique to give the artwork a rough texture. Likewise, hatchings and crosshatching lines were applied to give the artwork its shape and form.
The three principles of design that manifest themselves well in the artwork are proportion, hierarchy, and repetition. Hierarchy is the most significant element that makes up a design. The hierarchy emphasizes the primary message an artist wishes to portray in Dantor a Anaiss artwork, the artist placed at the center of the artwork a woman holding a baby representing the hierarchy. Repetition has been used as an essential principle of design to bring the difference between the background of the painting and the actual painting. The idea was achieved through the repetition of different colors. The proportion has been applied to portray the woman holding a baby as a more significant element in the artwork, which is more important.
Soup Joumou
The artwork dates back to 2020, and William did the collection. The art represents modernism and how art has evolved and majored in photorealism. The medium used to make the artwork a success is acrylic. The four formal elements in the above artwork are color, texture, tone, and contrast. The art constitutes multiple colors: yellow, green, sky blue, and grey. The artist has used materials and media to achieve the arts smooth and shiny texture. Likewise, the art has both light and dark tones with low value. The art background represents a dark Tone, while the dish full of food represents a light tone with high value. Furthermore, the art has high contrast due to the high differences in tones between the background of the art and the ball. Also, the art has a more dramatic atmosphere due to the high contrast.
Conclusion
The three principles of design portrayed in the art are contrast, proportion, and hierarchy. The most critical event representing the arts hierarchy is the bawl holding Haiti culinary. Additionally, the contrast making up the design of the art is unique as the background is made up of dark colors, and the bawl plus what its holding is made up of brighter colors. Contrast is applied to distinguish between the background and the main art. Arguably, the bawl is proportionally more prominent than anything else in the art. The arts principle of proportion is applied to show the main object being focused on. The ball and the Haiti cuisine are the focus of the art.
