Introduction
As the boss of USAID, I herein recommend how the crisis in Haiti would be solved by establishing how to channel development aid to the country for both medium and long-run strategies. Haiti is among the poorest countries in the world and ranks as the sixth poorest country. Currently, the destructions in Haiti due to the earths quick is massive which would make it even poorer. The destructions reduce the economic viability of most of the economic sectors which need to be reconstructed back for the country to be independent once again.
To ensure that the problems in Haiti are addressed amicably I would present the following suggestions; First, USAID has international standards which should be met by any country which is requesting aids. I would ensure that international standards are enforced to receive aids. Secondly, I would recommend the government of Haiti to develop administration policy agenda which will be used to address issues of corruption and poor administration of donations. Provision and implementation of such policies will strengthen accountability and domestic management capability of the donation given to the country (Lucas). These would be achieved by removing incompetent people to improve on fund and project management.
Donations should also be a well-coordinated Donor program for all the non-governmental organizations which are more than 3000 operating in Haiti because neither the government nor the international community would account for what they are doing there (Lucas). I would propose non-governmental organizations in Haiti support institutions to build up their capacity instead of supporting individuals. I would mostly concentrate on the support of the private sector because the chamber of commerce in Haiti does not have information on how it should function as a chamber to be able to carry out economic promotions and trade which are normally run by chambers.
Cities Operations
I do concur with Jane Jacob a famous economist who argued that cities should diversify so that they would maximize their growth. Such diversification should be enhanced by the government by setting up platforms that can facilitate diversification of financing different sectors of the economy.
The role of government in diversification is by creating a political environment that supports many opportunities to be able to thrive. Therefore the government should grant franchise of management and operations and provide credit guaranty to the investors (Shiming, 56). Diversification makes a city to be more economically stable because its economic activities are derived from different sectors of the economy. With such activities, if one sector of the economy collapses or would not be doing well its effect on the citys economic growth would be minimal as other sectors of the economy would continue to be vibrant.
Conclusion
Well-balanced diversified sectors of the economy in the city should promote the growth of both private and public sectors and all of them to be highly encouraged for them to coexist and promote the growth of the cities economy. Specialization is good as Paul Romer believes but it risks the citys economic independence and sustainability because if the economic sector which the city would have specialized in collapse then the city would be in economic crisis.
