Nature is one of the factors that sustain life. Starting from the food we eat to the air we breathe. Almost all of the things around us are given by nature. But how cold-blooded are we when it comes to preserving it? We are like fleas that live on dogs or leeches that suck blood on their host. Whereas it pertains to us humans being irresponsible in taking care of nature. If this goes by, we might regret it in the near future. Burning of fossil fuels. Kaingin. Those are some of the things we do that can destroy our life-sustaining factor. Why are we doing this? What is our intention? Having undisciplined actions – like what is happening presently – towards nature may result in various diseases or worst, death.
God provided us with everything we need in order to live. We are called the salt of the earth because we should be preserving what God has provided for us. But are we so-called ‘salt of the earth’, really preserving our nature or are we making it worse? One effect of inhumane acts toward nature is natural disasters. When we do actions that destroy our nature, we also destroy our shield from natural calamities like landslides, floods, typhoons, etc., which are brought by heavy rainfalls. Through this, our lives will be or might be at risk.
Also, the oxygen-carbon dioxide cycle will be an imbalance. We all know how this cycle works. And when our carbon dioxide is greater than our oxygen, our ozone layer will weaken and it may cause global warming. We should nourish our nature because we all need it. We should also tell the next generation to take care of it. Because we never know when will our world ends.
Lastly, visualize waking up in a pitch-black room. No one else is there. You start crying because of being alone in the dark and begin to look for help. When you wake up you realized that it was just a nightmare. Another effect is the loss of habitat or home to animals. The issue with regards to the Amazon rainforest, wherein two-thirds of the said rainforest was burnt into ashes. Animals, approximately one million, were caught in the fire. With our reckless behavior, animals will no longer have a place to live in. The Amazon rainforest is home to 2,505 kinds of species in the world. Animals are not the only ones who will lose their home, but also our fellow indigenous people. And with the fiery incident, our world may have lost something we do not own but we need the most.
Compare this to a child having a nightmare. If he/she wakes up, we will witness him being scared and afraid. Just like the animals, they will be afraid, feeling a strong sensation of poignancy, and will be left alone. Try placing yourself in the shoes of the animals present in the Amazon after the fire incident, you will be traumatized and scared of the circumstance you are facing. People nowadays tend to be callous or do not care who they ran to, or what effect will it result. We should always remember to take care of everything around us, especially those animals who just want to live a normal life. Remember, animals are just like humans, if you do not show concern to them, then you are far worse than a wild beast.
With this in mind, inhumane acts towards nature lead to the destruction of the earth and humans. Mainly because both nature and people are interrelated each other, if one is destroyed, the other one will incrementally be destroyed also.
We, humans, gradually forget the importance of nature. Nature is not only a kind of thing that you dispose of whenever you want. In fact, nature doesn’t need us, but we need nature in order to live. It is just saddening that our nature’s current situation is worst, because of our reckless acts. So I’m going to ask, are you cold-blooded enough to destroy our nature, or do you still have sympathy left to restore it to its original self?
