Emmett Till was just a 14-year-old teenager who possibly whistled at a white woman. Bryant and Milam severely beat the boy, gouging out one of his eyes. They then took him to the banks of the river, where they killed him with a single gunshot to the head. The two men tied the teens body to a large metal fan with a length of barbed wire before dumping the corpse into the river (Ray, 2019). Till had an open casket funeral as asked by his mother so that everyone could see what happened to her son. I think everybody needed to know what had happened to Emmett Till, Till-Mobley said. Racism has been going on for a very long time. North America and South America decided that all races should be segregated from one another. When racism happens in America, it affects everyones emotions, it shows segregation and what a lot of people have been through in the past, and it still affects us today.
They separated their drinking fountains, bathrooms, hospitals, schools, and many more. It was prohibited for any members of different races to marry each other. Most races had fewer rights than whites especially African Americans. Such as physical violence, daily insults, and frequent acts, and verbal expressions of contempt and disrespect, all of which have profound effects on self-esteem and social relationships. It doesn’t matter what’s on the outside it matters what’s on the inside, white people didn’t care about hurting other races because they didn’t think they were the same even though everyone is a human being who deserves to be treated with respect.
Racism is a horrible thing. There shouldnt be anything as bad as racism. The segregation between the races is disturbing. As much as Martin Luther King Jr. taught all of us, he had a strong quote about segregation.Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.- Martin Luther King Jr. Segregating the races won’t bring peace it will only bring hate and separation of the world and the only way to stop this is to not segregate and be kind to everyone, everyone is someone no matter what their race. MLK once said, to accept injustice or segregation passively is to say to the oppressor that his actions are morally right. Martin Luther King, Jr. Never go for what you think is right, to go for what is politically right for all. MLK was a very smart man and stood up for what he thought was right. Segregation and oppression were something he was strongly against because he went through hard times being an African American from the 1930s to when he passed away.
Racism has been going on for a long time, and though it has died down over the years there is still racism around the world every day. People who won’t leave it alone and other problems all over the world. There have been many people who have overcome it and stood up for themselves just like MLK did for the segregation and oppression that he went through and his close friends and family went through and all the people that helped African Americans so they’d get their place in the world. Emmett Till was just a kid who didn’t deserve to be killed but his death became a rallying point for Civil Rights movements. MLK said I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear. He loved people and wanted everything to be equal and fair for everyone and he achieved most of what he wanted for America because people are more than they have been.
