The arguments circulating around The Hebrew scriptures of Genesis spark many theories among the religious and conspiracist alike, but no conspiracy is more debated about than whether Moses is the true author of the book of Genesis.
This paper is here to put the conspiracies to rest by proving that Moses did not in fact write the book of Genesis.
These are the three strongest points that I will make as to why Moses couldnt have possibly written ‘Genesis’. The Hebrew scriptures were written sometime around 900 B.C. They also dictated that Moses died way before the events of Genesis took place, this shows that there would be no way for Moses to be able to record about any of the events that transcribed. To back up the claim made above R.E. Friedman wrote: &in the eleventh century Isaac Yashush a court physician of a ruler in Muslim Spain, who pointed a list of Edomite kings who lived long after Moses was dead yet Moses knew their names?
In Genesis 36:31 it says, Before Israel had a king, there were kings who ruled Edom. Therefore, this is referring to a specific time, i.e. before 1000 B.C., Moses would not have known the names of the Edomite kings born long after his death, nor would he have known the date for which Israel would have their first kings.
Elon Gilad gave more evidence to back up this claim by pointing out The rabbis of the Talmudic era did believe that Moses wrote Genesis himself the reason being, he describes his death, burial, etc. which would be near to impossible if he died before the pages were even written. Now continuing with Elon Gilads findings, he also noted that Rabbi Abraham Ibn Ezra wrote in his 12th-century Bible commentary that 12 verses in the Torah are anachronistic and seem to indicate that they were written after the time of Moses. For example, when Moses was alive, the Canaanites still controlled the Holy Land. So, the verse ending with And the Canaanite was then in the land (Genesis 12:6). Therefore, this could not have been possibly written by Moses, but rather someone who lived long after the Canaan was taken over, which is after the death of Moses.
Now although there are people who would argue that Jesus Christ authenticates Moses authorship of ‘Genesis’, I find it interesting how a person can try to use a quote from Jesus as evidence; i.e. Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. The fact is that such evidence as Jesus said& is in this case something that was written 50 years after his death, this is someone who never knew Jesus. That means we are talking about an event supposedly reported prior to Genesis. If Cinderella claims her story is true, is that really all it takes as proof to say it is?
