The era of globalization is a controversial phenomenon since it not only boosted the growth but also caused inequality of countries in terms of the distribution of benefits. Such an issue is explicitly seen in their economic indicators, but this aspect is a mere effect, whereas the cause lies in another field. As can be seen from the experience of the worlds countries, cooperation significantly improved the situation but not for all of them (Sen, 2002). In this case, it is a question of the distribution of opportunities rather than ultimate benefits. Therefore, it would be fair for the countries to share, and this process should cover such aspects of human life as knowledge, technology, and, consequently, economic advantage.
From this perspective, the primary sphere that should be addressed is the distribution of information between the worlds regions. The experiences of the western and eastern countries in the past demonstrated that sharing knowledge was eventually beneficial for all of them. Thus, for example, the scientific progress was triggered in the ancient times when Europeans borrowed the knowledge in mathematics from Indians as well as the notions of algebra from al-Khwarizmi (Sen, 2002). As a result, this type of exchange happened to be crucial for the development of humankind. Nevertheless, in the present-day world, the situation is complicated by growing competition in all spheres. This factor hinders further exchange and poses a threat to less developed countries.
The distribution of knowledge is directly connected to the technological progress of the world and the ultimate benefits of the population. However, the same mechanism shaped by the nations competing for leading positions is applicable to this field. In this case, it can also be concluded that the past successes of the world were derived from sharing. This way, the creation of computing systems was conditional upon the distribution of works of al-Khwarizmi (Sen, 2002). In turn, the emergence of printed books was connected to the achievements of China, India, and Turkey (Sen, 2002). It is clear that the world is changing rapidly, but its developmental patterns remain the same since it depends on the fair distribution of technological advances providing opportunities for the countries.
The former two considerations, knowledge and technology, are directly connected to the economic situation in the world and the distribution of the ultimate benefits. From this perspective, to ensure the prosperity of all the regions, it is critical to establish a better exchange of information that, in turn, will provide equal opportunities for them. However, the fairness of sharing does not indicate that the outcome of the activity of more developed countries should be distributed. Quite the opposite, the interests of the deprived will be addressed more efficiently if they have the same technological opportunities for growth. In this case, the underdeveloped countries will have a chance to benefit from them, and the distribution of the worlds advantages will be fair.
To sum up, the phenomenon of globalization has both positive and negative consequences for various regions. Its merits are related to the possibility of the exchange of knowledge, technology, and, therefore, economic gains. However, the situation is complicated by the increased competition between the countries, and this process is not as easy as it used to be in the past. As a result, the distribution of benefits around the globe is uneven and, consequently, unfair. In order to change these circumstances, the countries should admit the advantages of a fair attitude for the world as a whole.
