The present paper is devoted to topical directions of contemporary research in the sphere of education and presents the range of topics of great significance for educators. The choice of the topic has been inspired by various spheres of personal and professional experience along with outside sources, such as current news, peer reviewed journals, and educational web sites.

Research Topics

  1. Raising Reading Scores of Gifted Students. The past educational mistakes concerning absence of attention and special educational strategies aimed at gifted students should be corrected. Nowadays diverse research devoted to promotion of gifted students and their academic success is underway. Since gifted students differ from average students by reading above their grade level, demonstration of vocabularies that may be qualified as advanced, they cope with tests well, and are active readers on the whole (Vacca, Vacca, & Gove, 2000). As the promotion of reading skills of gifted students is of vital importance, it is necessary to pursue research of the ways of raising their reading scores.
  2. Teaching Reading to Students with Disabilities. According to No Child Left behind Act, students with learning disabilities should get equal and fair treatment so that their learning skills could be developed (United States Congress et.al., 2005). Since education in the USA should be available to all citizens, it is necessary to pay special attention to students with disabilities. It is known that many students who belong to the category of students with disabilities are process information inefficiently and have problems with text structure, word learning, comprehension (Klingner et al., 2007). Thus, the issue deserves further research.
  3. Reading Recovery Program. It is necessary to study the effectiveness of Reading Recovery Program, the beginning reading intervention program that has been created for first grade students who experience difficulty in reading tasks (Machado, 2009). It is necessary to analyze the existing data to determine the effectiveness of the program and to offer possible improvements or the use of key principles and strategies of this program to design and implement similar programs.
  4. Prevention of Bullying at American School. Bullying has become a serious problem relating to American system of education since school should be a place where children feel safe, secure, and where they are treated with respect (Lumsden, 2002). Though bullying is not directly connected with educational instruction, it is rather an organizational issue but it has direct connection with academic achievement and psychological comfort of students.
  5. Ways of Promotion of Student Motivation to Learn. Motivation is the factor that determines student participation in learning process. It is necessary to study the factors that influence motivation of students to learn (Lumsden, 1994). Nowadays student motivation is weak, Lumsden (1994) states that one in four students leaves school before graduating (par.1).
  6. Gifted Students among Culturally Diverse Students.
  7. The Analysis of Head Start Program.
  8. Ways of Promotion of Computer-based Learning.
  9. Leadership at American School.
  10. The Impact of School Uniform on Student Behavior and Achievement.
