Bullying is viewed as innocent fun between individuals from the outside perspective, but according to the people that are enduring this pain, it is a serious and scary issue. Bullying is very bad and is actually a big matter that needs to be addressed and stopped. It can cause physical and even psychological damage to the person receiving this constant torture, who will later most likely need therapy later on in life. This effect can cause a student to decrease in the ability to focus on academics and even cause depression/anxiety, and health issues.
To begin, academics is one of the first to be affected due to the fear students face in a learning environment. Nearly 50% of students get bullied. More than 70% of students admit to having seen bullying occur in their school. In grades 4 through 12 students experience bullying. When many people assume that a little bit of bullying is harmless, it can actually be hard to teach students when they have so much going on. When students get bullied, theyre constantly thinking about the teasing that might occur during class or even out in the halls. Students will have a hard time focusing on assignments or tests or even on class lectures because its constantly in the back of their heads. This will result in students having a low GPA or even failing.
Additionally, depression is a very common side-effect because humans, in general, may start thinking theyre not enough to be alive because the bullies tend to say things like Go kill yourself or Nobody likes you. These words can strongly change a persons mindset, which can lead to suicidal thoughts or actions. Any victim of bullying can get tired of overthinking what people are constantly telling them, which will increase the thoughts or actions of suicide, therefore causing anxiety.
Further in, bullying can affect victims mentally, which will lead to health issues, since bullying isnt only caused by words, but can be in the form of physical harm. Some examples of physical harm would not only include self-harm but can also include harm brought by the bully themselves. Pushing, hitting, and punching can hurt the victims body, creating bruises, cuts, nose bleeds, and possibly broken bones, depending on how bad the bullying becomes.
In conclusion, we can say that bullying is really bad considering the consequences behind it. Students are a big part of preventing bullying or even helping a victim out by making them not feel alone. This can be done by noticing a change in behavior in their classmates. Asking if someone is okay or if they need help, and telling an adult that bullying is occurring. Parents can also help by talking to their kids about standing up for themselves or telling their kids to not bully others. Since bullying has a strong effect on people, others should help stop it or at least spend time with the victims and make them feel loved.
