Choose one of the evaluation methods (direct observation, self-anchored, standardized measures) that you would use to evaluate your motivational interviewing progress. In other words, how would you know if it helped the client or not. For the assignment you will need to define the method you choose (citing a source), explain why you chose it over the other methods and how you would use it to measure your client’s progress (how effective the MI is for the client). Remember, the purpose of evaluation is to see if the intervention is effective or not. this is just a hypothetical situation. You do not need actual data but you should be able to explain the process you would use if actually evaluating how effective the intervention was. State in concrete terms what will be different at the end of treatment/after intervention is implemented.
Changes in:
Behaviors
Thoughts
Feelings
Social Relationships
Environment
Reflect the needs and wishes of the client
Be realistic
Be an outcome that can be defined specifically and measured
Be the SAME BEHAVIOR as the focus of the intervention…
The evaluation method I’m using is Direct Observation and it Requires a clear, objective definition of the behavior (Example: number of cigarettes smoked, ounces of water drank per day, number of classroom disruptions)
Frequency Counts: total number of times a specified behavior occurs
Discriminated Operants: the percentage of times the desired behavior occurs following the antecedent
Time-Sampling Methods: observation period is divided into short intervals during which the behavior is recorded as occurring or not
My scenario is a young man who struggles with time management with school work. He feels like because he is at school all day he shouldn’t have to come home and do more school work. He rather play his game instead. But its reflecting in his grades because he’s failing some of his classes and he doesn’t want to get held back in the same grade. We came up with a plan for him to study every day for at least 30mins and then play his game we also found him a local tutor to help him out as well.
