I need a 3/4 page discussion reply to this discussion board post. No fancy/complicated wording. References need to be 2019-2024 only and have to be accessible for free. Preferably U.S. websites.
More applications of artificial intelligence (AI) to provide precision medicine are entering the health care system. These applications are often used to predict health outcomes based on the specific profiles of patients.
Knickman & Elbel (2024), explain to readers that AI was created by those in technology to serve as and mimic the human brain and thought process. As the tech world fused with the healthcare world, one of the ways AI has been used is to assess a patient, recognize a health concern, and create solutions. Sound familiar? This evolving tool is being applied to many areas of healthcare to assist those providing clinical care to patients (Knickman & Elbel, 2024). As AI becomes more common, it is important to recognize not only how beneficial it is to healthcare providers, but how it can limit them as well.
Drexel University (2021) recognizes that there are multiple pros to working with AI in healthcare. This is evident when AI is used to interpret diagnostic test results, schedule patient procedures, assist in medical advances through research, and provide quick insight on patient resolutions when data is provided. Designating these tasks to an AI generative server not only allows healthcare professionals to allocate their time to more critical tasks, but it also saves money for the medical institution utilizing it by eliminating other resources that were once used. On the other hand, there have been established drawbacks. It has also been recognized that when using AI, there is raised concern for job security, room for error, its ability to recognize healthcare disparity and barriers, and breaches in patient confidentiality. This leads to hesitation when using this tool and ultimately requires human monitoring to ensure accuracy (Drexel University, 2021). I believe that a healthcare system needs to take the provided pros and cons into consideration when debating on utilizing AI. Assessing how it can provide assistance in optimizing patient care as well as save time, effort and money is important. Ultimately understanding if the benefits do outweigh the risks, I believe, would be the deciding factor. Although there is plenty of room for growth when using AI, I feel that it can be proven to be valuable and I look forward to seeing the advances made as its use becomes more prevalent in healthcare.
