My name is Lilian, and I am currently working as a Behavior Technician. My journey into the field of education and behavioral analysis began when I was 14 years old. At that time, I started volunteering to help students with their homework and to provide additional explanations of classroom material. This experience taught me how to connect with students, identify their academic challenges, and tailor my support to meet their individual needs. Between the ages of 15 and 18, I continued tutoring, and some of the children I worked with had Autism Spectrum Disorder. Over the years, I had the privilege of helping them reach their true academic potential, and making sure that they could catch up with their peers and succeed within their grade levels. This experience definitely influenced my career aspirations, and getting a passion for working with children with special needs. It also led me to pursue a career in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) as a Behavior Technician. In my current role, I have gained hands-on experience working one-on-one with children on the autism spectrum. My responsibilities include providing personalized support to help these children complete academic tasks, enhance communication, and develop life skills that foster independence in their daily routines. Beyond academics, I assist children in mastering essential skills, such as transitioning between activities, social interaction, and building adaptive behaviors. Each child I work with has unique strengths and challenges, and this diversity has helped me refine my approach to individualized care. This role has also deepened my understanding of the barriers that children with ASD face and reinforced the importance of evidence-based interventions in promoting their growth. Through my experiences, I have come to appreciate the impact of targeted behavioral interventions on the lives of children and their families. Supporting a child in achieving developmental milestones is incredibly rewarding for me. This experience has strengthened my commitment to continue my education in ABA. My ultimate goal is to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. As a BCBA, I will have the opportunity to lead behavioral interventions, design individualized programs, and expand my reach in helping children achieve their full potential. I am particularly motivated by the idea of combining practical work with research and advocacy to advance the field of ABA. This program will provide me with the advanced theoretical knowledge, analytical skills, and the practical knowledge required to improve the way I practice. Additionally, collaborating with experienced faculty and like-minded peers will allow me to learn from others’ insights, broaden my perspective, and enhance my ability to contribute meaningfully to the field. To ensure my success in this program, I bring a strong set of skills and attributes cultivated through my academic and professional experiences. Time management, problem-solving, and communication skills have been integral to my work as a Behavior Technician, allowing me to balance complex responsibilities while delivering effective support to children and their families. Moreover, I have developed resilience, adaptability, and a deep sense of empathy, qualities essential for addressing the diverse needs of children on the autism spectrum. My pursuit of knowledge is continuous. Through this program, I hope to deepen my understanding of behavior analysis principles and improve my ability to conduct thorough assessments and evaluations. I am eager to develop more effective intervention strategies and enhance my skills in collaborating with families, educators, and teams. Building holistic and sustainable support systems for children is one of my primary professional goals, and I believe this program will provide the tools necessary to achieve it. Creating comprehensive and sustainable support systems for children is one of my main professional objectives, and I am convinced that this program will equip me with the necessary tools to accomplish it. Furthermore, I aspire to gain research experience that will help advance ABA practices, ensuring that all individuals have equitable access to high-quality services. Pursuing a Master’s in Special Education (ABA) is the next step in my journey toward realizing my professional goals. After this another step I will be taking is completing the BCBA exam. This opportunity will enable me to create a meaningful impact in the lives of the children and families I work with. I firmly believe that my enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment to ongoing growth will allow me to thrive in the program and as a future BCBA.
