Submit a 6-8 page essay where you will integrate course concepts and apply them to a consultation analysis of an existing policy, treatment method, or procedure within a given educational or psychological institution. You will outline a racially and multiculturally informed critique of the policy, treatment method, or procedure and offer suggestions on how improve the item of your choice. (1) Description of policy, procedure, or treatment method: Provide an in-depth description of the policy, procedure, or treatment method that you have chosen. What is it? How long has it existed? What is it’s origin? In what institution or institutions is it located? Is it directed toward a certain population? Who are the members of that population? (2) Description of purpose: Describe what the purpose and intention of your chosen item is at both a societal and institutional level. What is the policy seeking to do for the population that it is directed toward? How does the institution describe the intent of the item? How is it received by the sociocultural milieu? (3) Description of prior criticisms: Provide a review of what prior criticisms and arguments against the item you chose already exist. Describe where these arguments have come from (ex: patient rights groups, providers, legal challenges, etc.) and their impact. Answer whether the criticisms have caused or are expected to cause changes. (4) Describe your lens/reference: Describe what lens or reference(s) you intend to use to provide further critique of the item. Label that you are using a decolonial, multicultural, anti-racist, abolitionist lens and articulate why you have chosen that lens for your critique and suggestions. This is also a chance for you to take specific lenses from various readings in the course and use them as a guiding reference for your analysis (e.g. using a Freirean lens to examine an educational policy). (5) Describe your critique: Articulate the weaknesses and problems with the item that you have chosen. Discuss the possible issues it has with the population of interest it seeks to serve. Discuss how the item impacts key concepts such as the development of a racial hierarchy, white supremacy, colonialism and imperialism, underrepresentation, discrimination, etc. (6) Offer solutions/amendments: Using your lens and the course readings as a guide, offer an alternative, amendment, or a solution to responding to a prior criticism. Note any strengths that the item you chose may already have and how to augment those strengths in your suggestions. Describe the method for implementing these changes within the institution that it is placed in. To strengthen, you may cite successful examples of your suggestion/similar suggestions in other institutions/areas
