Introduction
In recent decades, mobile phones have become more and more important. The cell phone is a kind of communication tool with many functions. In this changing era, the advantages of mobile phones in some aspects even surpass other carriers such as newspapers, and it has become a prominent fourth media. More than 400,000,000 people in this world have a cell phone. People can do a lot of things easily through mobile phones like play games, call others, learn new things, etc. People are also more and more dependent on mobile phones while many people even have phone addiction. Due to cell phones become the part that we cannot abandon, are cell phones harm us in any way? The answer is positive.
First of all, cell phones may bring many bring much pain to us in various ways. The National Toxicology Program study found the radiation may damage our DNA which can change the composition or structure of chemical bonds in DNA. Although there are not 100% sure about cell phone radiation could possibly cause cancer believed by most physicists, it still better if we can pay more attention to it. According to the California Department of Public Health, some laboratory experiments and human health studies have suggested the possibility that long-term, high use of cell phones may be linked to certain types of cancer and other health effects. Excessive cell phones use may be associated with hearing loss, ringing in the ears, headaches, and increased symptoms of thumb arthritis. When we use phones, we will strain neck muscles and may lead to knots or spasms, and even lead to nerve pain that radiates to the back, shoulders, or down the arms.
Additionally, cell phones have countless germs which catty 10 times more bacteria than most toilet seats (discovered by scientists at the University of Arizona). Some people do not care about the bacteria on the cell phone because they cant see any dirty things on the phone. However, the virus is hard to see through our eyes because it is too tiny. They actually exist and we have to be careful about them. Cell phone harbors viruses and bacteria like E. coli that can make people sick and uncomfortable. A study found more than 17,000 bacterial gene copies on the phones of high school students. According to the survey, there are 120000 bacteria per square centimeter on the cell phone. According to this calculation, there are at least millions of bacteria in the whole cell phone. The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine conducted a sample survey of 390 people’s mobile phones and hands in 12 cities in the UK. It was found that 92% of mobile phones were contaminated with bacteria, and some even contained more than 1000 kinds of microorganisms. It is so horrible for us to live with these bacteria every day while they will harm us in every second.
On the top of it, the blue light emitted by mobile phones with shorter wavelengths can cause health damage. Blue light can cause heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and other health conditions. It may also damage the cornea and impact vision of us. Harmful blue light has very high energy, which can penetrate the lens to the retina and cause atrophy or even death of retinal pigment epithelial cells. The death of photosensitive cells will lead to the loss of vision, which is irreversible. When we play with phones, our eyeballs are in a state of tension for a long time, causing visual fatigue, which may lead to people’s myopia deepening, diplopia, concentration failure, and other symptoms, affecting people’s learning and work efficiency. Eyes are an important organ for us while it is the window we see this world, and we have to protect them.
To sum up, cell phones are dangerous to people and it will bring much harm to us. As I stated above, mobile phones may cause great harm to our body and mind in many ways. However, it is hard for people to leave the cell phone due to its importance. It will be better if we can take some precautions like limit the number of calls you make, limit call time, limit the length we use our cell phone, etc. Cell phone makes our life convenient and fast, but don’t forget that it is dangerous. Let use the cell phone properly and make it become a good tool instead of a killer to us.
