Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954, in a small town in Mississippi, USA. During her young years, she struggled with sexual abuse from male relatives and family friends. In 1971, she began working in the radio industry and then became the host of the chat show People Are Talking.

Oprah launched her show ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ which ran for 25 years and ended in 2011. Her show earned her a lot of money and she became the wealthiest African American of the 20th century. She used her money generously and started up multiple charities for various global issues at the time and in November 2013 Oprah was rewarded for her actions with the honor of receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In 2005, Winfrey raised a massive 50 million dollars to improve the education of girls in South Africa as well as support families affected by Hurricane Katrina. Not only did she help in education for young girls but raised awareness of a topic she had encountered herself. In 1994, she proposed a national survey for guilty child abusers and raised more awareness for abusive relationships.

Oprah Winfrey did a lot of work in South Africa trying to help girls get the best out of life with good education and learning. Winfrey started a Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa which is a boarding school for grades 8-12. The private school started on the 1st of January and now has an enrolment of 322 academically gifted girls.

After making these education clinics she visited South Africa to see and meet the girls. But she didn’t stop there Oprah went back to South Africa 36 times. Oprah Winfrey lives Commandment 5 as respect that everyone deserves the chance to live with a good education, lifestyle, and mind. The Commandment says You shall not murder.- Exodus 20:13. Winfrey values the lives of the girls in South Africa and is willing to give them the life they deserve. She takes her time, money, and love to give the girls in South Africa the knowledge of leadership and education.

The Commandment also encourages us to care for ourselves and Oprah balances caring for others and yourself at once. To me, this Commandment means respecting life, not others but yours as well. Everyone deserves respect as they are an image of God and deserve every chance at life. Oprah sees people struggling, she sees them not being able to take every chance at life so she takes action to help others while keeping herself in mind. This is the meaning of the 5th Commandment.
