Reflection

In the dynamic society, it is vital for nurses to understand the occurring changes and the heritage of healthcare. The perspective that an individual has on the available healing therapies changes frequently as more scientific research continues on their effectiveness. It thus is imperative for the nurse to try making the environment as conducive to implement these curative practices.

Changes I have experienced through the course

This course has enabled me to understand that the healing process does not just rely on technology and conventional methods. There are several other factors which are involved in the process, which encompass the whole body processes and functioning. As a healer, I have learnt that treatment does not just involve curing and formal treatment, but rather occupies the process of caring for the patient in a way that promote personal interaction and exactly understanding their problems.

The process of nursing is an ongoing cyclic process that should be patiently followed till a victim achieves system stability. It is essential to understand the social and emotional needs of patients before and after the surgical procedure. Incorporating both the coordination of the brain, body and character through techniques like rumination are necessary in the treatment process. There are processes followed in the implementation of several healing therapies, but they usually pursue a general guideline. Patients environment, physical and spiritual lifestyles are first assessed to come up with appropriate diagnosis. Goals are then set, based on the conclusions of the assessment made in order to come up with appropriate curative processes.

Rights of patients

The privileges of patients must be esteemed and sustained by the healthcare supplier, as they form a primary part in remedial development. A patient is allowed to choose a preferred mode of treatment, provided that he/she is aware of its consequences. Their stateliness and considerations of their religious backgrounds and cultural backgrounds on the available forms of treatment must be considered. Information concerning the patients healing process must be held in confidence unless the client so wishes to release this information. The client needs information on the qualification of nurses and surgeons and their professionalism in the healing process and how credible the organization is. Both positive and negative outcomes of the healing process must be understood. They cannot be involved in a research project without their approval. Customers must be informed of all the necessary information that may affect them (Scott, 2007, pp. 145-151).

Responsibilities of patients

My understanding of the responsibilities of patients in the healing process has also deepened, enabling me to better inform my clients on how they can effectively engage in their healing process. Patient re thus advised to provide accurate and complete information on their medical past and their present condition. The patient has a responsibility of informing me on their preferred health care therapy (Scott, 2007, pp. 145-151). Appointments must be kept, and the patient must provide early notice in case of any cancellations. The client has a responsibility to ensure that all financial obligations are fulfilled early in order to ensure smooth and timely treatment process.

Improving the environment to help promote healing

The process of natural healing begins with the individual. There are certain inner desires and physical behaviors which show an individuals desire to heal. As a nurse, I can observe these qualities immediately I come in contact with the patient. Observing their personality and motivation enables me tell which healing process would be necessary, and the changes that they should make in their environment to promote their health (Greguire, 2009).

The surroundings must be conducive to ensure the coordination of the mind, body and spirit. The healing processes begin by making changes, especially in negative behavior, and creating an exercise and nutritional plan. The healing potential is thus activated through this belief in oneself and promoting healthier living. The healing setting must be considerate, safe, fostering, orderly and attractive (Hitchcock, Schubert & Thomas, 2003 pp. 221-222).

Although it may be hard to promote healing physically, emotional healing is much feasible. There are certain types of oil used in massage to create a relaxing environment through prevention of negative thoughts (Greguire, 2009). When this is combined with some relaxing music, and basic stretches, for example, yoga, the ideal environment for healing is promoted.

Healthcare changes

The present generation is more interested in achieving total wellness and trustworthy health in order to live longer (Wakefield, 2003). There are several healthcare changes examined in this course which have had significant effects on my desired nursing role. It is necessary to provide high-quality care which focuses on the holistic healing process. This process discuses the coordination of the physical and mental components of a person, and how they can interact to promote the healing of the other.

Changes occurring in healthcare are driven are catalyzed by components both inside and outside the body. Cultural diversity and technology are some of the machinery that speeds up the rate of the change (Wakefield, 2003). There are several roles nurses are presently faced with, both in the clinical setting and the home environment. A healthcare change which has had the utmost outcome in my practice is the variety of cultures and personal beliefs that most patients have.

Clinical environments are reshaping their services in order to fulfill the needs of different complexions of the populace. There are new mixes of race and ethnic cultures in the country, most of whom have their own preferred forms of healing methodologies (NCCAM, 2010). The field of nursing requires an individual with familiarity and dexterity to meet the healthcare requirements of the culturally diverse population in an efficient care delivering system. This would lead to a decrease in the disparities experienced in health dilemmas between members of the population. The rights and responsibilities of patients also call for the respect of people from diverse backgrounds.

Advocacy roles

I intend to explore more of natural therapeutic methods and CAM therapies. Through this course, I have been able to learn several of its benefits and how best to apply them. While some may be combined with other forms of formal medication, there are those which can be easily taught and administered to lead to the general wellness of an individual.

These forms of therapy mainly rely on cultural and historical bases, and most of them have faced formidable opposition from scientists (NCCAM, 2010). Many organizations are also mushrooming with their own product, which have not been properly tested. Lack of knowledge among clients on treatments to use, and how to combine them with other forms of modern treatment usually results in catastrophes when they are implemented. This results in the tarnished credentials of some CAM therapies.

Alternative treatment forms have diverse foundations and methodologies. Traditional approaches, divine beliefs and other new forms of healing form the basis for most of these practices. As a result, most of these therapies do not have scientific backing, and are thus are not wholly accepted in the medical field. However, those which have undergone research have been accepted in the field of nursing, most of which are used in breast reconstruction or by cancer patients.

It is advisable to seek mainstream medicine for diagnostic purposes. Alternative medicine can then be applied in a safe manner to complement the prescribed medicine in a healthy way. It is the responsibility of the patient to be informed on the acceptable forms of remedies (NCCAM, 2010). The choice of an efficient healthcare giver is also imperative to make certain that appropriate dealings are pursued in therapies such as massage and acupuncture.
