The nursing profession aims at providing the best health care environment for every patient. Such a goal can be a challenging task as far as it presupposes the ability to manage and lead successfully. Every nurse should be a leader in his or her working environment. The development of leadership skills can be a time-consuming mission. I have chosen my aunt for this paper. She is a nurse, and she is the person I admire most of all in my professional environment.

According to Yoder-wise (2011), every nurse is considered to be a leader by law as far as the nurse has the right to choose the most appropriate treatment options for patients. The nurse handles patient safety by making choices, critical evaluation, and managing all related factors. The author defines leadership as the process of making decisions concerning various clinical cases. These decisions are carried out based on personal experience and knowledge because there are no current regulations for them. Management presupposes setting the right goals and choosing the methods and techniques for their accomplishment. The last significant feature of the leader concerns the ability to create followership. This notion means the process of engaging other employees in the achievement of a common goal.

My aunt has always been an inspiration to me. Since childhood, I remember her as a strong woman who knows what she is doing with her life. When I became grown up and had to choose my future profession, I decided to become a nurse as well. Sometimes, my aunt tells me that being a nurse can be rather a demanding job, and it is stressful as well. One has to be able to think of several tasks simultaneously, cope with stress, and always provide patients with high-quality care regardless of personal emotions or mood.

Yoder-wise (2011) writes that a good leader is someone who can contemplate critically and believe his or her hunches at the same time. I remember the case when my aunt had a very nervous patient. He had relatives but did not want to approach them. My aunt realized that the patient was so nervous because he had nobody to support him and was too proud to ask for help. She called the patients sister and organized their reconciliation. My aunt is a responsible and trustworthy person who motivates others. She has developed her followership unintentionally. Other nurses always ask for her advice and consider it. The aunt also has developed emotional intelligence. It is the complex of psychological and social skills that helps to organize the working environment with harmony.

Some people can say that the contribution of the average nurse cannot be substantial. On the contrary, I believe that every nurse, and my aunt, in particular, contributes to the improvement of this world significantly. My aunt aims at making the lives of people easier and happier. By doing so, she changes them. Patients are more likely to recover soon if they are treated by kind-hearted staff. My aunt makes this world a better place by providing patients with high-quality health care services.

The role of nurses in the health care environment should not be underestimated. They comprise the basis for making the population healthy. Every nurse is a professional leader and manager who is responsible, intelligent, and communicative at the same time.
