During the course on principles of epidemiology, I did research work on salmonella in the Caribbean. The most interesting task was to analyze and propose the key principles of a plan to improve the situation for public health. These evidence-based recommendations are important to me personally in order to follow simple steps and reduce my own risks. It is important for my future profession to address such important public health challenges.
The study of salmonella in the Caribbean surprised me because I found a simple means of preventing the disease. It was important to study this particular disease because it is one of the four leading causes of diarrheal disease worldwide (Butaye, 2021). I liked the development of a program to reduce the disease. To combat the spread of salmonella, simple hygiene rules are important: washing hands with soap and wiping them with paper towels. Promotion of a healthy lifestyle and food safety is the main preventive method. Exploring options for solving a public health problem is important to me because I can later contribute to the fight against the disease. It turned out to be interesting that simple methods are needed for the fight. For me personally, the topic is also significant, because I can independently adhere to the rules of hygiene and teach them to others.
I will apply the findings of the study in my personal and professional life. I can independently communicate food safety rules to my loved ones, warning them against getting sick. Outside of the course, in my professional life, I can detail and improve the public health plan as a public health worker. This profession involves working with the general public to teach healthy behaviors (Epidemiology Careers). In the case of salmonella, I will be able to promote the safe consumption of food in order to reduce the incidence rates.
In conclusion, during the course, my most interesting assignment was the study of salmonella, in particular, the development of strategies aimed at reducing the spread of the disease. It is important that the strategies studied are simple and applicable in public health. For me personally, these results are important because I will be able to communicate the rules of protection against illness to my loved ones. In my professional activity, I will be able to educate the population and promote respect for their health through nutrition and hygiene.
