Unit 4: Chapter 7: How could I forget that?
One of the most common issues students discuss with me is that once they go to take the test they seem to “forget” all the information. As King (2020) noted sometimes what we think of as forgetting is really encoding failure where the information was never entered into long-term memory. When you are taking a test you must access the information in long term memory to utilize in short term memory to answer the test questions. However, if you did not actually encode that information into your long-term memory you will not be able to retrieve it.
In the Pre-Course Assignments, you were asked to identify three strategies from the section on Study Tips from the Science of Memory (King, 2023, pages 240-242) to utilize to help you be successful in the course.
Upon reflection, how have you been utilizing those strategies? Have they been helpful? If so, how? If not, why do you think they have not worked for you?
What changes do you think you need to make to your study habits? If none, why?
Your response must be a minimum of 250 words excluding citations.
Remember, your responses are taking place of face-to-face discussions and should demonstrate you have read, understand, and can apply the material. You will cite your sources in APA format. See the APA guides for additional information.
